The world loves... JP Garwood

Thoughts on a Friend

by JP Garwood

With that dry wit
and tourniquet smile
I could have sworn
you were some legend of a past indignity
Passing time in serious bubbles
labeled numerically
but not ordered.

I silenced your attempt
to reacquaint yourself
to a past rendered useless
and buried in heeps
of discarded Valentine chocolate heart boxes.
I'm sorry my words could not convince you
but words in general are crafty works of art
and art differs from life
in a different way to us all.
Prepare then
for your cone-hatted, romantic
McDonald's birthday party future
and remember---free cake only tastes good
when washed back with a cold paper cup
of what used to be
