The world loves... JP Garwood

Dawn

by JP Garwood

I aim my gun
at the rising sun
and threaten the dawn of day
I cannot phase
those golden rays
but I do it anyway
The sun warms my face
and with no disgrace
Says "these words are true"
"They'll always be
But one of me
And always one of you"

I retake my aim
At my own name
When I hear her words inside
and my heart aches
from past mistakes
and there's no place good to hide
I can take no peace, sun
from your release
Somehow I always knew
they'll always be
but one of me
and always one of you

It seems absurd
now that I have heard
from the voice that speaks at dawn
and empty now
I wipe my brow
As I lay back on the lawn
I shall hear no more
From the voice I'm sure
but within the words just grew
They'll always be
but one of me
and always one of you

I pack it in
As the day begins
Unsure if I have changed
and people pour
from every door
But the sun and I remain
I see their eyes
and I realize
that I learned nothing new
They'll always be
but one of me
and always one of you
